Blossoms & Buds: Spring

I will restore to you the years that the swarming locust has eaten, the hopper, the destroyer, and the cutter, my great army, which I sent among you. “You shall eat in plenty and be satisfied, and praise the name of the Lord your God, who has dealt wondrously with you. And my people shall never again be put to shame.Joel 2:25-26

For a long, long time, probably up until this past year I have not been a fan of Spring. I associated it with bad memories from years past and couldn't wait for it to be Summer, but even more so for Fall. Fall has always been my favorite season because of the changing colors. The rich reds & oranges. The Pumpkin Pie. The coming family gatherings around turkey dinners. Raking leaves in crisp cool air.

Ever since I read Ann Voskamp’s One Thousand Gifts in summer of 2011 and last spring when I started getting into photography I have loved Spring. I couldn't wait for the Winter to thaw from Northwest Indiana this year because I couldn't wait for the green grass, playing outside with the kids, going to the river walk, birds returning from the south, and squirrels to scurry up and down the trees again.
Most of all I couldn't wait for the flowers to bloom. The purples, pinks, and whites sprouting from the once barren trees.

The Lord has shown me that He colors every season. Sometimes it’s harder to see in certain ones. And sometimes I just wasn’t looking.

I’m grateful for the Spring. Even if the blossoms have turned to plain green leaves, even if there are horrible memories associated with it in the past.

I am grateful for each season of life.
I will continue search for the beauty in each day.
